Autumn Fashion. What do you wear at this time of year? The temptation just to take a cardi everywhere is strong, and the need for an umbrella changes hourly when you can’t decide what the skies actually mean. Do those grey skies intend to empty on you at any time soon, or are they going to part to reveal late summer style sunshine and make you sweat in your tights and boots?
Autumn Fashion Staples
‘Hedging your bets’ is the order of the day when it comes to autumn style. It’s also the ideal time of year to accessorise with abandon, as easily removable items are always a good thing if the heat gets suddenly turned up. A little bit of strategic layering can make all the difference when it comes to not getting caught out.
Layering? Don’t just sling on a cardi
Of course, we’d tell you to ditch the bulky cardi and just go everywhere with a set of Wingz in your handbag, but fashionistas everywhere agree that covering up your pretty clothes with extra layers of thick material isn’t always the best way fashion forward. If you’re still too fond of your summer tops to say goodbye just yet, get extra wear from them with Wingz underneath, or you could add a roll neck t-shirt top if you want some cleavage coverage on colder days.
Fabrics are key…
This time of the year cries out for clever use of denim, along with your favourite summer tops and a light jacket if you can get away with it. Keep warm, autumn fashion, with light suit fabrics or even a little on-trend velvet and you can stay cosy without overdoing the coat.
Changing colour
Copy Mother Nature with the changing colours and make a few adjustments to your usual palette. Rich, warm autumn hues will make you feel seasonal and a few key pieces in this season’s top shades of copper, navy, wine and mustard update your look for the time of year without costing the earth.
Go bare legged – with boots!
Your mother wouldn’t be impressed but the fashion pack always seems to make it look so good! Admittedly, you can’t get away bare legs and boots for very long so grab your window of opportunity before the frosty mornings kick in. Keep the tights at bay as long as possible and pull on a pair of pixies over bare ankles. We dare you.
Opt for mid-length
If you studied the autumn fashion collections earlier in the year as we did, you can’t fail to have picked up on the trend for midi-skirts. It’s the perfect look for the autumn/winter transition, and it suits most people too. Team a midi skirt with a crisp white shirt and tights for a day in the office or dress it up with a pretty camisole top and blingy jewellery for a night out.
Lace it up
Lace was the fabric that caught our attention in the autumn 2016 collections. It’s such a beautiful, versatile fabric and you can dress it up or down. We’ve been inspired to update the design of our popular ¾ length lace Wingz, and we’ve introduced a gorgeous scalloped detail that we absolutely love. Perfect for dressing up autumn jeans, extending the life of summer tops and generally accessorising with just about anything.
