It’s pretty amazing, really. Gareth Southgate and the England 2018 team have done something that many of us thought it would be impossible to do after the week we’ve had in politics and everything else that’s been going on. We got to the World Cup 2018 semi-finals and lost to a really good team. We’re all dead proud of our national team for the first time in YEARS.

It’s great that the lads have done so well, and let’s hope it’s the start of a new renaissance in English football. A young, diverse team without any obvious prima donnas or big egos and a manager that actually seems to know what to do. However…did you know that the WOMEN’S football team are also doing spectacularly well?

The Women’s World Cup Squad

The England Women’s World Cup team recently moved back to the top of their World Cup qualifying group, after beating Russia 3-1 in Moscow, and although they haven’t won a World Cup yet, it’s looking positive for France 2019. They are currently second in the FIFA rankings and qualification for France 2019 looks pretty likely.

Since 1984, our national women’s team has got through to the FIFA Women’s World Cup quarter finals four times and the semi-finals of the Euros twice. That’s not a bad record!

Good luck for Saturday!

Of course, it’s not over until it’s over for the boys in Moscow either. They’ll be playing for a third or fourth place on Saturday before the finals on Sunday, and we’re all rooting for them here at Wingz of course. It’s good to feel a sense of national pride again, and with everything else that’s been happening this week, we certainly needed a lift, didn’t we?

If you need a lift – we have a SALE on all Lace Wingz (featured in our rather patriotic blog header) – we are selling them all at a stunning £14.99 at the moment. Don’t forget that we also have gorgeous red chiffon Wingz if you’re feeling particularly patriotic, a white top and red Wingz will certainly be a good look for the game on Saturday.

And if football isn’t your thing…well, there’s always Wimbledon.

Have a great weekend!
